U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins announced today that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded $1,396,000 to the Maine State Department of Health and Human Services in Augusta for immunizations and vaccines for children. They also awarded $341,743 from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke to Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor for clinical research related to neurological disorders.
Senator Snowe and Collins released the following joint statement:
“Prevention is the key to combating disease which is why our children need to have access to the immunizations and vaccinations that will keep them healthy. We need to continue our investment in clinical research so that chronic diseases will be a thing of the past. This funding ensures that Maine’s best and brightest will be at the forefront of the effort to unlock the advances that will cure our most degenerative illnesses.”
