Senators Collins, King Announce Funding to Support Firefighter Programs


WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-Maine), Chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, and Angus King (I-Maine), a member of the Caucus, announced that six town fire departments, as well as the Maine Firefighting Academy in Brunswick, will receive funding from the latest round of grants to support firefighting training practices, protective gear, and technology through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program.


Senator Collins Joins 12 Colleagues in Calling on Justice Department to Halt Family Separations While Congress Works on Legislative Fix

Washington, DC — U.S. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) joined a group of 13 senators in sending a letter to US Attorney General Jeff Sessions today calling for a halt to the practice of separating families who have illegally crossed the US-Mexico border. The letter petitions the administration to stop enforcement of this policy until Congress can pass legislation to keep families together.



Senator Collins Joins Bipartisan Group in Urging Administration to Improve Hurricane Relief Efforts

Collins, King Announce $625,000 in Police Funding for Maine

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced today that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has awarded four Maine police departments a total of $625,000 to hire police officers. The Augusta Police Department, Ellsworth Police Department, and Westbrook Police Department will each receive $125,000, and the Biddeford Police Department will receive $250,000.


Collins, King Announce Nearly $350,000 for Maine State Police Crime Laboratory

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced that the Maine State Police Crime Laboratory will receive $345,649 in grant funding through the U.S. Department of Justice’s DNA Capacity Enhancement and Backlog Reduction (CEBR) Program. The funding will be used to help continue efforts to increase casework capacity and efficiency at the laboratory.


Collins, King Announce $240,595 for Bucksport Fire Prevention and Smoke Detector Installation Program

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced today that Bucksport will receive $240,595 for the Bucksport Fire and Emergency Medical Services’ Fire Prevention and Smoke Detector Installation program. The grant will help cover the cost of purchasing and installing 10-year smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors for approximately 2,400 homes in Bucksport and Verona Island. During the installation, firefighters plan to offer residents a brief fire prevention home inspection and provide important fire safety information.
