Presque Isle, ME – U.S. Senator Susan Collins visited Northern Light AR Gould Hospital yesterday to meet with staff and see the new Linear Accelerator (LINAC) radiation therapy equipment for cancer patients.

Senator Collins, Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, secured $3.016 million through Fiscal Year 2024 appropriations legislation for the purchase of this machine, which will help to improve care for cancer patients across Aroostook County.

“The health care professionals of Northern Light AR Gould Hospital provide critical and compassionate care for their patients, and I’m delighted to join in celebrating this great advancement in cancer care for Mainers in the County,” said Senator Collins. “As Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding to support rural health care providers and the care of cancer patients throughout the State of Maine.”

Through her role on the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Collins has secured more than $1 billion in Congressionally Directed Spending for 534 local projects across Maine in the last five years, including investments that support law enforcement and first responders, improve access to health care, strengthen rural infrastructure, and support childcare and workforce development.
