SENATOR COLLINS OFFERS ASSISTANCE TO NORSUN WORKERS

Washington, DC - Senator Susan Collins today offered her assistance to NorSun workers who are expected to be dislocated when the company closes its potato processing plant in Fort Kent. The announcement of the closing was made today by NorSun's Chief Executive Officer. The reason for the closing and number of workers impacted are not immediately known.

"It is always discouraging when Maine workers lose their jobs through no fault of their own. This is devastating news for NorSun workers, and is a serious loss to the Fort Kent community and to potato growers who tend to rely on local processors for steady business," said Senator Collins. "I will do everything possible to assist workers during this difficult time. I encourage them to get in touch with me through my State Office in Caribou, where the staff is standing by ready to help."
