"President Bush has made a wise decision in choosing Congressman Porter Goss, the Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, to be the next Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. At a time when our nation is at an increased risk of terrorist attack, the President has tapped an individual who can hit the ground running in leading the CIA.
"Through his professional experience with the CIA and U.S. Army Intelligence and more recently, as Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Porter brings to this position a wealth of knowledge and first-hand experience with the intelligence community. He understands the challenges we face as we work to reorganize the intelligence community to make our nation safer."
Senator Collins chairs the Governmental Affairs Committee, which is conducting hearings on the recommendations of the 9-11 Commission. The Senate leaders have assigned the Committee the task of producing legislation by October 1.
