SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROJECTS THROUGHOUT MAINE

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced $475,628 in federal funding for various energy efficiency programs throughout Maine organized by the Maine Public Utilities Commission. The federal awards were distributed by the U.S. Department of Energy.

"These federal funds will better assist in Maine's efforts to further energy efficiency, thus ensuring future savings in valuable resources," Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement.

Federal awards were granted to the following projects under the Maine Public Utilities Commission:

• $130,000 for the Rebuild America/High Performance Campuses Program, which seeks to implement energy-efficiency retrofitting in building remodeling projects.

• $96,810 for the Maine Clean Cities School Buses Program, which supports the use of alternative, cleaner fuels in school buses across the state.

• $44,968 for the Industrial Technologies Program under the Special Projects Master Fund, which provides for outreach and training to engage members of energy-intensive industries in learning the benefits of increased energy efficiency.

• $29,115 to the Maine State Energy Program, which will assist in public education and market development for biodiesel and biomass-related technologies.

• $20,000 for the Clean Cities Coalition Project, for the promotion of truck idling technologies to reduce pollution in cities across Maine.
