NATIONAL GUARD EXTENDS PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD FOR PROPOSED LOW-LEVEL TRAINING FLIGHTS OVER WESTERN MAINE

U.S. Senator Susan Collins today announced that the National Guard has agreed to her request for a 30-day extension of the public comment period on its plan to lower the flight ceiling for training missions over western Maine.               “I am pleased that the National Guard has agreed to delay its public comment period,” said Senator Collins.  “I was just in Western Maine yesterday and heard concerns from those who would be directly affected by low-level training flights over that part of our state.  It is important that those voices be heard in this debate.”               The National Guard has agreed to extend the public comment period from April 13 to May 14, 2007 for the general public to review and provide comments on the environmental assessment.  A second public comment period for the aeronautical impact ends on May 3rd.   ###
