U.S. Senators Collins, Shaheen, Ayotte, King Announce $25.2 million in Structural Repair Funding for Portsmouth Naval Shipyard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following their leadership and advocacy on the Senate Appropriations and Armed Services Committees, U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-ME), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), and Angus King (I-ME) announced today that the U.S. Navy plans to provide funding for another critical project at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNSY).  The funding includes $25.2 million to conduct structural repairs at berths 11A, 11B, and 11C that will repair a quay wall and restore the carrying capacity of existing portal crane rails.  This project is central to the shipyard’s mission of attack submarine maintenance, modernization, and repair.

“This critical structural repair project will ensure the skilled workers at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard have the infrastructure they need to continue to provide world-class attack submarine maintenance in support of the Navy and our national security,” the Senators said in a joint statement.

Senators Collins and Shaheen serve on the Senate Appropriations Committee, and Senators Shaheen, Ayotte, and King serve on the Senate Armed Services Committee.  Ayotte serves as the Chair of the Readiness and Management Support Subcommittee, which oversees public shipyards and military construction.
