SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE $360,000 FOR TWO MAINE HOSPITALS

U.S. Senator Olympia J. Snowe and U.S. Senator Susan Collins today announced that MaineGeneral Medical Center and Blue Hill Memorial Hospital have each been awarded a grant of $180,000 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The funding is provided through the Rural Health Network Development Program.

The program aims to provide health care providers with quick and convenient access to the latest research and medical advances, expert support, and team consultations. It will also speed the sharing of medical records, and enable remote medical diagnostics and surgery, dentistry, and behavioral health treatment.

“This grant funding will enable doctors to better consult with doctors from urban hospitals throughout New England, allowing for improved care,” noted Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. “We are excited to announce this funding because it will help provide patients in some of Maine’s, and New England’s, most rural areas with access to much-needed medical specialists.”
