U.S. Senator Olympia J. Snowe and U.S. Senator Susan Collins today announced that the Maine Department of Health and Human Services has been awarded a grant of $1,396,574 in funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The funding will come through the Ryan White Grants Program and will provide Maine DHHS with funding to improve the quality and availability of care for low-income, uninsured, and underinsured individuals and families affected by HIV.
“We are pleased to see that this funding will be going to Maine,” noted Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. “This funding will help provide improved care to individuals hardest hit by being diagnosed with HIV.”
The program is named after Ryan White, an Indiana teenager whose courageous struggle with HIV/AIDS and against AIDS-related discrimination helped educate the nation.
