SNOWE & COLLINS ANNOUNCE $25,000 FOR EAGLE LAKE AND MILBRIDGE

Washington, DC – Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins today announced that the towns of Eagle Lake and Milbridge will receive a total of $25,000 in federal grants for water and waste system projects. The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development program. The program assists in supporting essential public facilities and services as water and sewer systems, housing, health clinics, emergency service facilities, and electric and telephone services.

"For small communities in Maine, it can be a real challenge and a heavy financial burden to maintain public utilities. Theses grants are critical to help small and rural communities to provide the services that their residents and businesses need," said the Senators in a joint statement.

The grants will be distributed as follows:

· $10,000 to the Eagle Lake Water and Sewer District to study disinfection by products removal to meet new MDRP regulations.

· $15,000 to the Town of Milbridge to investigate problems with its waste water system and the chlorinations of discharge into the bay.
