COLLINS AND LIEBERMAN ANNOUNCE HEARING TO EXAMINE PROPOSAL FOR NATIONAL COUNTERTERRORISM CENTER

Washington, DC – Senate Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Susan Collins (R-ME) and Ranking Member Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) announced today the second hearing to examine the recommendations of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, known as the 9/11 Commission.

WHEN: Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at 10:00 a.m.

WHERE: Room to be determined

WHAT: GAC hearing to examine the 9/11 Commission's recommendation to establish a National Counterterrorism Center.

WHO: Witnesses invited to testify include John Brennan, Director of the Terrorist Threat Integration Center, Philip Mudd, Deputy Director of the CIA Counterterrorist Center, Patrick Hughes, Assistant Secretary for Information Analysis at the Department of Homeland Security, and John Pistole, Executive Assistant Director for Counterterrorism and Counterintelligence for the FBI. Philip Zelikow and Chris Kojm from the 9/11 Commission staff are also expected to testify.
