SNOWE AND COLLINS ANNOUNCE NEARLY $600,000 FOR HEAD START PROGRAMS

WASHINGTON, DC – Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins announced today that the United States Department of Health and Human Services has awarded Maine $598,698 in grants to support Head Start programs already in place.

"Head Start programs prepare young children in low-income families for the classroom and these grants will ensure that these invaluable programs continue in facilities across Maine," Senators Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement.

The federal grants were distributed as follows:

· $473,689 to Waldo Community Action Partners.

· $125,000 to the Maine Department of Human Services, Division of Financial Services in Augusta.
