SNOWE AND COLLINS ANNOUNCE $200,000 FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF MAINE

             U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins announced today the University of Maine has been awarded a grant of $200,000 from the U.S. Department of Education as part of the Personnel Preparation program.  The funding will be used to provide enhanced training for those working with children under five who suffer from disabilities.               “This funding will greatly benefit the University of Maine, its students, and—most importantly—those with disabilities they serve,” noted Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement.  “We are excited to announce this funding.”               The U.S. Department of Education’s Personnel Preparation program assists states in meeting their responsibility for providing personnel to serve children with disabilities.  The program awards grants to assist in the training of qualified personnel in topics related to special education, early intervention, and related services. ###
