MAINE DELEGATION ANNOUNCES $217,000 FOR ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES AT BRUNSWICK NAVAL AIR STATION

U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins and Representatives Tom Allen and Mike Michaud today announced that the Department of Defense’s Office of Economic Adjustment has awarded the Brunswick Local Redevelopment Authority $217,000 for environmental studies associated with the closure of the Brunswick Naval Air Station and the transition to the base’s redevelopment.             “We are pleased that the Defense Department has acted to provide these funds crucial to the orderly redevelopment of the base.  Comprehensive environmental planning is essential to properly determine the future uses of the base and to the swift completion of remedial clean up activities.  We will continue to work with the local redevelopment authority and all of the parties cooperating on the base redevelopment effort to ensure that the process runs smoothly and that the communities and people of the Midcoast region and Maine realize the most beneficial results from the redevelopment process,” said the members of the Maine delegation in a joint statement. ###
