Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins have issued a statement on the fire that devastated a large portion of downtown Milo, Maine, leaving a number of residents and businesses displaced. The Senators and their offices have reached out to local officials to offer assistance, and they have contacted federal officials to include the Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Agency and U.S. Small Business Administration in an effort to seek possible federal assistance. Representatives from the Senators offices were in Milo earlier today to meet with local officials and will be on hand for a meeting on Wednesday.
In a joint statement, Senators Snowe and Collins said, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the horrible destruction caused by the fire in Milo. While relieved that nobody was injured, our hearts go out to those who lost their homes and businesses. We pledge to do everything possible to help fire victims and the town of Milo rebuild and recover from this disaster.”
