WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senators Olympia J. Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded the Maine Department of Health and Human Services several grants totaling $3,043,954.
“We are pleased that this federal funding will help the Maine Department of Health and Human Services fulfill its mission to provide supportive, preventive, protective, and public health services to the people of Maine,” said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement.
The federal grants were apportioned as follows:
- $2,434,432 grant from the Division of Grants Management Operations to fund a bioterrorism, hospital preparedness program.
- $325,000 grant from the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment to increase client access and retention in Maine’s outpatient treatment system.
- $174,900 grant from the Office of Financial Services to fund a public assistance reporting information system.
- $109,622 grant from the Division of Grants Management Operations to support Maine’s oral health workforce.
The Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) is the United States government's principle agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves. The Department includes more than 300 programs that cover a wide spectrum of activities and administers more grant dollars than all of the federal agencies combined.
