Washington, D.C. - Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) announced today that the Town of Fairfield has been awarded $432,850 in grant funding from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) for construction and infrastructure costs at the Teague Biotech Park in Fairfield. Senator Collins, who worked directly with the town of Fairfield, urged EDA to approve the funds on the town's behalf.
"This EDA grant will greatly benefit the Teague Biotech Park and the Town of Fairfield. This essential funding will be used to finish construction of the Teague Biotech Park and will provide the citizens of central Maine the opportunity to get well paying jobs in the high tech sector," said Senator Collins. "This is an outstanding use of federal funds, because it will create jobs and will fill a vital niche in the scientific community. I am so pleased that I was able to assist the Town on this project," Senator Collins added.
This is the second time that the Teague Biotech Park has received funding from EDA. In 1999, the park received $642,600 to begin construction of the facility, which is named after the late State Representative Thomas M. Teague.
This grant funding is awarded by the Economic Development Administration, an agency under the auspices of the US Department of Commerce. The Town's application was submitted in collaboration with the Kennebec Valley Council of Governments, the local Economic Development District.
