Old Orchard Beach, ME – Today, U.S. Senator Susan Collins delivered remarks at the Maine Sheriffs’ Association (MSA) retreat breakfast in Old Orchard Beach. More than 75 members of Maine’s law enforcement community, including all 16 county sheriffs and some of their deputies, were in attendance along with representatives from Adult Protective Services. Senator Collins was invited to the event by York County Sheriff William L. King Jr. who has served as Sheriff since 2014.

“People throughout Maine appreciate the courageous and skilled men and women of our county sheriff departments. Maine is regularly ranked as among the safest states in the nation, a distinction made possible by your effective, professional, and compassionate law enforcement and corrections services,” said Senator Collins during her remarks. “That is why, as Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I am working every day to ensure that Maine’s law enforcement officers are able to protect themselves and our communities by providing you with the facilities and equipment you need to keep Mainers safe.”

Since 2021, Senator Collins has secured more than $29 million for 21 projects across the State of Maine to support the construction or renovation of police department facilities, and the purchase of upgraded law enforcement, communication, and 9-1-1 dispatch equipment.

The MSA is a non-profit organization that coordinates law enforcement and corrections activities with other related agencies. The organization works to improve and professionalize the sheriffs’ offices in Maine and to assure that all citizens receive the highest quality law enforcement and jail services in an efficient, courteous, and humane manner.
