WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Navy has notified U.S. Senator Susan Collins, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, that it has awarded Bath Iron Works $141,999,995 for lead materials and pre-production planning and support for the DDG-1000 program. The DDG-1000 is the Navy’s next generation class of destroyer, representing a leap in naval technology.
“The awarding of these dollars is welcome news for BIW and its skilled workers. It also represents the Navy’s continuing commitment to the DDG-1000 program, which is crucial for the future of the Navy and of our national security,” noted Senator Collins.
BIW has been working on detailed design work since last summer. It is expected that the construction contract will be awarded sometime this spring.
