Falmouth, ME — U.S. Senator Susan Collins congratulated Malek Dalal, a fifth grade student at Falmouth Elementary School, whose Easter egg design was selected to be featured at the 2019 White House Easter Egg Roll today.  Malek collaborated with two of his classmates and worked 2-3 hours per day in school and at home to create a design that highlights some of Maine’s iconic features.

“Congratulations to Malek for creating a design that highlights Maine’s beauty,” said Senator Collins.  “From the lighthouses on our rocky shores to Mount Katahdin to blueberries and lobster, this Easter Egg design truly demonstrates why Maine is ‘the way life should be.’  I am so proud of Malek for his dedication to this project, which showcases not only his talent, but also his love for his home state.”

Malek’s goal for his design was to portray what comes to mind when people think of Maine.  He collaborated with two other fifth grade students, Marie McGill and Pamela Sherman to develop his vision.  Billy Corcoran, Multimedia Teacher at Falmouth Public Schools, helped facilitate the project, which aligns with his goal of teaching students innovative and useful ways to interact with multimedia technology.

Dating back to 1878, the annual White House Easter Egg Roll takes place on the South Lawn and the Ellipse.  Leading up to the event, the U.S. Department of Education invites students nationwide to submit designs for eggs that are displayed to represent all 50 states.  Maine Wood Concepts of New Vineyard once again took part in the tradition by manufacturing 100,000 colorful, wooden souvenir eggs that were distributed to children who participated in the egg roll.
