Senator Susan Collins, who is Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security Committee and a strong supporter of Assistance to Firefighters Grants (‘Fire Grants’), is encouraging Maine fire departments to apply for 2008 grant dollars before the April 4, 2008 application deadline. Senator Collins has worked in the U.S. Senate to ensure that the grant program has the funds necessary to provide vital assistance to fire departments in Maine and throughout the nation.
Since the program began, Maine has received over 500 grant awards totaling more than $45 million.
“The Fire Grant program has proven to be an invaluable help for fire departments in Maine and throughout the nation providing funding for the training and equipment that is necessary to ensure that they are as prepared as possible to respond to emergencies and disasters. Our firefighters are critical first responders and the Fire Grant program has proven time and time again to be an important resource,” said Senator Collins.
The Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grants program website provides information and instructions related to application. The website address is: www.firegrantsupport.com. The program’s Help Desk can also be contacted at 1-866-274-0960 or firegrants@dhs.gov.
