Senator Collins Statement Following Final Passage of the Defense Authorization

 WASHINGTON, D.C. –U.S. Senator Susan Collins voted this afternoon in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Conference Report for fiscal year 2016, which passed the Senate with a strong bipartisan majority this afternoon (70-27).  The Conference Report would authorize $515 billion in spending for national defense and an additional $89.2 billion for the Overseas Contingency Fund (OCO) for a total of $604.2 billion and sets policy for the Department of Defense on a host of issues.


Senators Collins, King Announce Rural Development Grant For Community Concepts Inc.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—United States Senators Susan Collins, Chairman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, and Angus King announced today that the United States Department of Agriculture has awarded Community Concepts Inc. in Lewiston $793,800 in grant funding to help 30 very-low and low-income families construct their own homes in rural areas across Maine. Through the Mutual Self-Help Housing Program, this funding will help families, through partnership with Community Concepts, build homes in Androscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin, Kennebec, and Oxford Counties.


Collins, King, Poliquin Urge Department of Labor to Approve Assistance for Displaced Expera Mill Workers

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King, and Congressman Bruce Poliquin, sent a letter to U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Thomas Perez urging him to approve the recently-filed petition for Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) to assist the 195 displaced workers who are expected to lose their jobs following Expera’s announcement that it will close its Old Town mill due to foreign competition in the paper industry.  ‎
