U.S. NAVY ACCEPTS SENATOR COLLINS’ REQUEST FOR MAINE PORT VISITS U.S.S. VICKSBURG TO ATTEND BOOTHBAY WINDJAMMER DAYS FESTIVAL

Washington, DC –Senator Susan Collins today announced that the U.S. Navy is sending the U.S.S. Vicksburg (CG 69) to Boothbay Harbor during this year's Windjammer Days Festival. The annual event is called, "A Down East tradition celebrating the Boothbay Harbor Region''s rich shipbuilding heritage." The ship is scheduled to be in Boothbay from June 20 – 24th.

"The Windjammer Days Festival is dedicated to celebrating the area's rich maritime heritage and to pay tribute to the sailing tradition of windjammers. Navy ship visits have become a memorable experience for all who attend the celebration," said Senator Collins. "It is an honor for the entire state of Maine and the Boothbay community to once again host a Navy ship during this event. Further, this ship visit will provide the opportunity for the dedicated members of the U.S. Navy to meet the citizens they protect."

Senator Collins is a Member of the Seapower Subcommittee of the Senate Armed Services Committee, which has oversight over many naval programs including shipbuilding.
