SNOWE, COLLINS SUPPORT FUNDS TO SECURE MAINE JOBS

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today released a letter to the United States Department of Labor in support of the recent National Emergency Grant (NEG) requested by the State of Maine. The funds will be used to assist workers who will lose their jobs as a result of the Jordan Meats and Sanmina-SCI closures.

"We must provide relief for the 565 workers and their families who will suffer from these closures," said Senators Snowe and Collins. "These workers need some support to allow them to get back on their feet and return to the workforce as quickly as possible."

National Emergency Grants are discretionary awards by the Secretary of Labor that are intended to temporarily expand service capacity at the state and local levels by providing time-limited funding assistance in response to significant dislocation events. The NEG request submitted by the State of Maine will assist workers in attaining the appropriate training to help them secure jobs as quickly as possible after the closures of Jordan Meats and Sanmaina-SCI. ###
