SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE OVER $1 MILLION IN GRANTS FOR MAINE

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins announced that Maine has been awarded $1,021,839 in grants from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

"Communities throughout Maine will benefit from the federal funding distributed today," Senators Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. "These grants will improve social services and allow critical research to continue."

The federal funding was allocated as follows: • $344,839 to Jackson Laboratory for arthritis, musculoskeletal, and skin diseases research.

• $158,455 to Fish River Rural Health for the expansion of a health center cluster.

• $150,000 to Health Access Network, Inc. for the expansion of a health center cluster.

• $150,000 to the Maine Indian Basketmakers Alliance for social and economic development.

• $134,545 to the Penobscot Indian Nation for a Penobscot language revitalization project.

• $65,000 to the Maine Department of Human Services for grants to assist older refugees.

• $19,000 to Jackson Laboratory for human genome research.
