SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE NEARLY $2.4 MILLION IN RURAL DEVELOPMENT FUNDS

Washington D.C. - U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) announced that a total of $2,328,252 in funding has been awarded to Maine from the United States Department of Agriculture's Rural Development program.

"Providing federal assistance to community projects and non-profit organizations is extremely important to our state," said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. "These funds will assist several improvements on waste and water facilities and equipment as well as help fund much needed community projects that work towards improving Maine's economy."

The funds have been awarded as follows:

• $428, 252 loan to Coastal Enterprises, Inc. in Wiscasset to assist a low-interest loan program to public and non-profit organizations to relend for business and community development • $850,000 to Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber in Brunswick to help construct a new structure to serve as their tourist Information Center and provide administrative office space • $500,000 grant to the Town of Franklin to improve quality of water by constructing new equipment and facilities. • $415,000 loan and a $135,000 grant have been awarded to the town of Rangley to replace a water pump.

The USDA Rural Development mission provides guaranteed loans, approved loans, and approved grants. Rural Development is committed to helping improve the economy and quality of life in all of rural America. The loans and grants are used for community programs, which seek to construct or improve community facilities for health care, public safety, and public services.
