"It is often difficult to encourage students to pursue a career in rigorous subjects such as mathematics, science and technology. Funding is needed for programs that help generate an interest in these disciplines," Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. "Biddeford Middle School and the John F. Kennedy Memorial School are indeed fortunate to have the opportunity to show their students how much fun learning and participating in math and science can be."
The funds have been awarded to six state education coalitions and partnerships around the Nation by NASA in cooperation with the National Alliance of State Science and Mathematics Coalitions (NASSMC). The program aims to strengthen state-wide science, technology, engineering and mathematics education by addressing the critical need to improve education for students in underserved and underrepresented communities.
