SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $1 MILLION IN RURAL DEVELOPMENT FUNDS FOR MAINE

WASHINGTON, D.C.-U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that $1,094,000 has been awarded to Maine from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development program.

"Supporting vital infrastructure in Maine's small towns is one of our greatest priorities," Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. "Therefore we are pleased that the USDA Rural Development program is able to provide these loans to the Town of Jay and Elmhurst, Inc."

The funds have been allocated as follows:

• $494,000 approved loan to the Town of Jay to assist in replacing aging sewer mains and manhole structures.

• $600,000 approved loan to Elmhurst, Inc. of Bath to assist in the construction of a new administrative and programming facility.

The USDA Rural Development mission provides guaranteed loans, approved loans, and approved grants. Rural Development is committed to helping improve the economy and quality of life in all of rural America. The loans and grants are used for community programs, which seek to construct or improve community facilities for health care, public safety, and public services.
