SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE FUNDS FOR WHITING VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded $29,250 in firefighter grants from the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

"The grant awarded to the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department will give them the resources they need to obtain the equipment and training necessary to better protect the citizens of Washington County," Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement.

The grants distributed to Whiting are to be used for fire operations and firefighter safety, which includes training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and modifications to fire stations and facilities.
