SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE FUNDS TO PROVIDE HOUSING FOR HOMELESS VETERANS

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senators Olympia J. Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded a total of $760,065 in funding for Community Housing of Maine, Inc. and Volunteers of America Northern New England. The funds will be used to reconstruct two buildings that will provide beds to homeless veterans.

"Those who have served and protected our nation deserve the utmost respect and care," said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. "It is imperative that we provide housing for veterans in need of assistance. The extra beds in Portland and Biddeford will aid those veterans who are most in need of help and allow them a renewed sense of hope."

• $260,065 for Community Housing of Maine, Inc for the Acquisition and renovation of a building in Biddeford to create transitional housing that will provide 8 beds for homeless veterans.

• $400,000 to Volunteers of America Northern New England for the new construction of a building in Portland to create transitional housing that will provide 10 beds for homeless veterans. The Department of Veteran's Affairs (VA) aims to provide excellence in patient care, veterans'' benefits and customer satisfaction.
