"Homeland Security funding has allowed Maine fire stations to enhance their resources," Senators Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. "The new grants will help the Hermon and Cambridge Fire Departments better serve their communities."
The following departments will receive funding:
• $85,706 for the Hermon Fire Department. • $68,607 for the Cambridge Fire Department.
The funds that have been allocated to the Hermon Fire Department will be used for a Fire Prevention program, which includes public awareness, fire code enforcement activities, inspector certifications and fire prevention equipment/activities. The Cambridge Fire Department will use their funds for an Operations and Firefighting Safety Program which consists of training, equipment, wellness and fitness as well as modifications to the fire station's facilities.
FIRE Act Grants were created with strong endorsement from Senators Snowe and Collins. These grants are awarded to fire departments across the United States to increase the effectiveness of firefighting operations, firefighter health and safety programs, Emergency Medical Service programs, and Fire Prevention and Safety programs and to purchase new fire equipment.
