SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE FUNDS FOR JUVENILE JUSTICE IN MAINE

WASHINGTON, D.C.-U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that the Maine Department of Corrections has received a $600,000 grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), a component of the U.S. Department of Justice.

"Grants awarded from the U.S. Department of Justice are critical to ensuring that state and local law enforcement authorities have the necessary resources to fully protect our communities," said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. "These funds will allow the Maine Department of Corrects to better respond to and address juvenile delinquency." The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) provides national leadership, coordination, and resources to prevent and respond to juvenile delinquency and victimization. OJJDP supports states and communities in their efforts to develop and implement effective and coordinated prevention and intervention programs and to improve the juvenile justice system so that it protects public safety, holds offenders accountable, and provides treatment and rehabilitative services tailored to the needs of juveniles and their families.
