SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE $853,906 IN HEAD START FUNDING

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that the Administration on Children, Youth, and Families Head Start Bureau which is a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded Coastal Economic Development, Inc. in Bath $853,906 in funding for a full year/part day Head Start Program, including a teacher and teaching assistant.

"Head Start programs provide essential services and schooling to young children and families," Senators Snowe and Collins said. "The children in Bath will benefit tremendously from the aid that Head Start funds provide."

Created in 1965, Head Start is the most successful, longest-running, national school readiness program in the United States. It provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families. More than 21 million pre-school aged children have benefited from Head Start.

Coastal Economic Development Inc. is a community organization with a commitment to respond to, serve, and advocate for the needs and interests of low-income families and individuals in the mid-coast area by providing support and new opportunities necessary for their self-sufficiency and/or well-being.
