SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE $84,500 IN FUNDING TO THE JACKSON LABORATORY IN BAR HARBOR

WASHINGTON, D.C.-U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor has received $84,500 in funding from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS). The grant was allocated to Jackson Laboratory through the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development to begin a research project for mothers and children.

"Jackson Laboratory is one of the Nation's finest research institutions," Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. "It is critical that the Federal Government aid cutting edge research and development at places such as this. The funding for this particular project is especially vital as there is nothing more important than the health of mothers and children."

The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which is the biomedical research branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. NICHD aims to ensure that all women and children achieve and maintain healthy, productive, independent lives through optimal rehabilitation.
