"Improving port security is a vital component of our homeland security. Providing enhanced technology safety services and reducing emergency response time is critical to public safety," Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. The federal grants were allocated as follows:
· $400,000 to the City of Portland, to provide screening equipment for passenger marine terminals.
· $235,400 to the City of Rockland Maine State Ferry Service, for the inclusion of inspection mirrors and the closed circuit television surveillance systems. In addition, to supply Rockland's terminal with fencing.
· $110,000 to the City of Searsport Irving Oil, to enhance security and technology at the Searsport Marine Terminal.
