WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe (R-ME) and Susan M. Collins (R-ME) today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded $4.6 million in rural development funds to various entities in Maine.
“This USDA funding will help businesses in Maine expand their operations and create much-needed jobs,” said Senators Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. “We are especially pleased that the Millinocket Regional Hospital will utilize this funding to renovate health care facilities and help it live up to its mission to improve access to health care for the people of the Katahdin region.”
The funding is allocated as follows:
· $1,850,000 loan to the Masters Machine Company Inc. & Cycletime Leasing, LLC in Round Pond. The funding will be used to finance a building addition that will expand the manufacturing facility.
· $1,600,000 loan to To The Moon, LLC in Bar Harbor. The funding will be used to assist in acquiring a 22-room bed and breakfast inn and related operations.
· $1,150,000 loan to the Millinocket Regional Hospital. The funding will be used for renovations to the Hospital, medical office building, and White Birches health care facility.
The USDA Rural Development program provides financial loans and grants to help improve the economy and quality of life in all of rural America. The funds are used for community programs, which seek to construct or improve community facilities for health care, public safety, and public services.
