SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE $452,025 FOR ALCOHOL ABUSE REDUCTION PROGRAM

Washington D.C. - U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe (R-ME) and Susan M. Collins (R-ME) today announced $452,025 in funding for an alcohol abuse reduction program in Lubec. Funding was awarded by the U.S. Department of Education. "Educating Maine's youth about the dangers of alcohol abuse is critical to their health and well-being," said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. "We applaud Lubec's forward thinking in implementing an alcohol abuse reduction program." The Grants to Reduce Alcohol Abuse Program provides resources to local educational agencies (LEAs) to develop and implement innovative and effective alcohol abuse prevention programs for secondary school students. Projects must include one or more of the proven strategies for reducing underage alcohol abuse as determined by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). ###
