SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE $32,000 FOR JUSTICE PROGRAMS IN MAINE

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced $32,000 in total federal funding to justice programs throughout Maine. These federal grants are awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice.

"These federal funds are critical to enhancing the ongoing efforts of both state and community groups to lower crime and improve victims' services throughout Maine," Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. The federal grants were allocated as follows:

• $17,000 to the Maine Department of Corrections, to develop and implement institutional and community programs to reintegrate serious and violent offenders into the community.

• $15,000 to Catholic Charities of Maine, to expand and enhance their crime victim assistance programs and promote partnerships between faith and victim assistance organizations in inner-city, urban high crime areas.
