"These federal funds are critical to enhancing the ongoing efforts of both state and community groups to lower crime and improve victims' services throughout Maine," Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. The federal grants were allocated as follows:
• $17,000 to the Maine Department of Corrections, to develop and implement institutional and community programs to reintegrate serious and violent offenders into the community.
• $15,000 to Catholic Charities of Maine, to expand and enhance their crime victim assistance programs and promote partnerships between faith and victim assistance organizations in inner-city, urban high crime areas.
