SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE $1.3 MILLION IN TRANSPORTATION FUNDING FOR MAINE

U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins (R-Maine) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $1,363,561 in transportation funding to agencies for use in Maine.

“These Department of Transportation funds will address major transportation issues such as drunk driving and motorcycle safety,” Senators Snowe and Collins said. “Maintaining highway safety and improving public transportation services will keep Mainers connected and safe.”

The funding is distributed as follows:

? $1,059,561 to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration- This Alcohol Traffic Safety and Drunk Driving Prevention Incentive Grant will be used to develop and implement initiatives designed to curb impaired driving.
? $100,000 to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration- These Incentive Grant Program to Increase Motorcyclist Safety funds will be used to enhance motorcyclist safety training and motorist awareness.
? $294,000 to the Federal Transit Administration- These funds will be used to purchase an accessible 35 ft. replacement bus for the South Portland Bus Service to meet the region’s public transportation needs.
