SNOWE AND COLLINS ANNOUNCE OVER $1.9 MILLION FOR PORTLAND JETPORT IMPROVEMENTS

WASHINGTON, DC – Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins announced today that Portland International Jetport will receive $1,982,944 from the Department of Transportation. The grant awarded to the Jetport will be used to make safety and navigation upgrades.

"Portland Jetport is a major point of entry and exit for the U.S. These funds will allow the Jetport to make improvements necessary to enhance safety and service at the airport," Senators Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement.

A majority of the $1.98 million has been allocated to extending the runway by 400 feet and adding more lighting in the pavement. These upgrades will improve flight conditions at Portland Jetport, allowing planes to takeoff with only 600 feet of visibility, compared to the 1/4 of a mile currently needed.
