U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins today announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded $59,741 in funding to the City of Biddeford. The funding will be used to create a redevelopment strategy for the 35-acre former mill district in Biddeford, and is expected to be a catalyst for establishing public-private partnerships with mill owners, developers and other stakeholders.
“We are pleased the City of Biddeford is receiving this important investment that will provide the necessary resources to create a redevelopment strategy for the mill complex, establish the framework for increased partnerships, and enhance the economic vitality of the city” said Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. “This is a critical step in helping to create jobs and economic opportunity for our citizens and small businesses in the region."
U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration investments are focused on locally-developed, regionally-based economic development initiatives that achieve the highest return on the taxpayers’ investment and that directly contribute to economic growth.
