SENATORS SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE NEARLY $400,000 IN EMERGENCY GRANT FUNDING FOR MAINE

U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins announced today that the Maine Department of Labor has been awarded a National Emergency Grant of $395,678.  The funding comes as part of “wrap-around” services to workers who were recently laid off by Moosehead Manufacturing, Inc. in Monson.                                             “We are greatly pleased to hear about this federal assistance,” noted Senator Snowe and Senator Collins in a joint statement.  “This funding will greatly benefit the Moosehead workers by providing the services the workers need to get back on their feet.”               Moosehead Manufacturing closed in mid-February, laying-off over 50 workers.  The National Emergency Grant comes from the U.S. Department of Labor and is designed to provide services not provided under the Trade Adjustment Assistance program.  Moosehead had long been under intense competition from much cheaper Chinese imports. ###
