SENATORS SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE NEARLY $1 MILLION IN ENERGY EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENT FUNDING

              U.S. Senator Olympia J. Snowe and U.S. Senator Susan Collins today announced that three Maine businesses will be receiving a combined $945,112 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture as part of the USDA Rural Development Renewable Energy Systems and Energy Efficiency Improvement Grant program.  These grants provide rural small businesses in developing renewable energy systems, and in making energy-efficient improvements to their operations.   ·        Backyard Farms, LLC of Madison will receive $500,000 and has been approved for a loan of $500,000 for a wood-fired boiler system ·        Maine Wood Pellet Company, LLC will receive $400,000 for the production of fuel pellets ·        Hancock Lumber of Bethel will receive $45,112 to upgrade lighting and compressor system               “This grant funding will provide these three businesses with the funding they need to become far more energy efficient,” noted Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement.  “We are pleased to announce this funding.”   ###
