SENATORS SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE GRANT FOR HARMONY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT

U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins (R-Maine) today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development program has granted $35,750 in funding to the Harmony Volunteer Fire Department. The grant will be used to construct a building that will house a forest fire suppression truck.

“USDA Rural Development grants provide opportunities for rural communities across Maine to improve their community services and boost economic growth,” Senators Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. “With the help of these funds, the Harmony Volunteer Fire Department can expand its facilities to accommodate the forest fire suppression truck and enhance its ability to ensure fire safety in Somerset County.”

The USDA Rural Development program provides financial loans and grants to help improve the economy and quality of life in all of rural America. The funds are used for community programs, which seek to construct or improve community facilities for health care, public safety, and public services.
