SENATORS SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE FUNDS FOR MAINE HISTORIC PRESERVATION

WASHINGTON, D.C.-U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that Maine has received a $557,563 matching grant-in-aid from the National Park Service, Historic Preservation Fund.

"Funding for community development projects such as these is of paramount importance in preserving historic Maine towns and cities," Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. "The National Park Service has been instrumental in many projects around the state and we commend its work and the positive impact it has had."

The Historic Preservation Fund provides guidance and technical assistance to states, tribes, local governments, and federal agencies as they plan for the preservation of their important historic resources. In this manner, historic buildings, archeological sites, traditional places, and landscapes become part of public policy for land-use, economic, environmental, and social strategies to strengthen communities nationwide.
