WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins today announced that the U.S. Department of the Army has awarded General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products a $5,583,963 million contract for production of M2 receiver cartridges. The work will be performed at Saco Defense in Saco.
“We are pleased that the U.S. Army continues to recognize the quality work of the employees at Saco Defense and we are delighted that this contract will help to maintain the current workforce of more than 320 employees at the facility,” said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. “We congratulate Saco Defense on this contract and applaud the men and women who work there who help supply our troops with the very best arms and equipment.”
General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products produces the M2 .50 caliber crew-operated machine gun that may be mounted on ground mounts and most vehicles as an anti-personnel and anti-aircraft weapon. The weapon provides automatic weapon suppressive fire for offensive and defensive purposes and can be used effectively against personnel, light armored vehicles, low, slow flying aircraft, and small boats.
