U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Olympia J. Snowe announced today that the Group Home Foundation in Belfast, Maine will receive a loan of $1,750,000 from USDA Rural Development for the construction of an addition to the Little River Apparel facility in Belfast.  Approximately 75 percent of the 200 employees of Little River Apparel have some form of disability.  The facility currently produces chemical warfare suits for the Department of Defense.                “These funds will greatly benefit the Group Home Foundation and the Little River facility,” said Senators Collins and Snowe in a joint statement.  “The growth of the facility will allow more citizens to be assisted by the Group Home Foundation and its programs.”               The Group Home Foundation, Inc. was organized in 1975 to promote the general welfare of handicapped adults in the Waldo County area.  Little River Apparel is targeting the construction of a 25,000 square foot addition.  It currently produces approximately 120,000 chemical warfare suits per year.   ###
