SENATOR SUSAN COLLINS SWORN IN FOR SECOND TERM

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Surrounded by members of her family and friends from across Maine, Senator Susan Collins today took the oath of office for the second time. Senator Collins, who won reelection last November, was sworn in by Vice President Dick Cheney, who also serves as President of the United States Senate.

"I am humbled and grateful that the people of Maine have put their trust in me a second time," said Senator Collins. "Representing the people of my home state in the United States Senate is an honor which words cannot do justice. In taking the oath of office for a second term, I am committed to represent the State of Maine in a manner that is worthy of the trust that has been placed in me."

Following her swearing in, Senator Collins hosted a reception for family and friends who came to Washington to observe the ceremony. Among the family members who observed the Senator's swearing in ceremony were her sister, Nancy Collins; Nancy's husband, Rick Sperry; their daughter Isabel; and another of the Senator's nieces, Sarah Wiesendanger.

"I'm delighted to have members of my family with me today, and am very happy that so many of my friends could join us for this occasion. I look forward to serving the people of Maine for another six years."
