Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins announced that Alexander Van Uden, a Hampden native, has been awarded a fall internship in her Washington, D.C., office.  Alex is a 2009 graduate of Hampden Academy and a 2019 graduate of the University of Southern Maine.

“As a United States Army veteran, Alex is highly motivated, has a strong work ethic, and is committed to serving our country,” said Senator Collins.   “I am delighted to welcome him to my D.C. office, where he will have the opportunity to become actively involved in the legislative process and to continue serving the citizens of Maine.”

Alex enlisted in the United States Army Infantry in 2012.  He deployed to Afghanistan in 2013, where he participated in combat operations as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.  He credits this experience as the beginning of his commitment to public service.
